Suckers to tha side/I know you hate my 98/You gonna get yours
usually, in IT support you don't have bad mondays. its usually tuesdays that are really bad. This is due to the fact that everyone else has a really bad monday, and just chalk up their problems to 'a bad monday', then on tuesday they come in and still have the same problems and take it out on the poor IT department.Today has well and truly broken the mold.
The problem is that the company that I work with, and the company that we are 'partners' with have very different corporate structures. Today for example, I was trying to place an order for a service to be carried out - network wiring. Our contractor needs an order so he can get paid. Our department won't give an order until our 'partner' gives us a signature saying they will foot the bill.
Last week our 'partner' told us that they have signed off all outstanding orders and was agreeing to pay everything. Until they lost the one for me. and the lady dealing with it went off on leave for a week.
Now normally this wouldn't be a big deal.... expect if this doesn't get done this week, the place where I work... shuts. that's right. pack your bags and go home. some stupid person didn't do their job and the place closes.
now, in my company, the one thing they do do well is to make sure that more than one person can do any given job. This is mostly due to the fact that people come and go so damn often that having only one person that can do something is bloody dangerous. but not our 'partner'! no no! one person. one job. no one else dares do that job. so when she went off on leave... no one else in her office even knew what the missing piece of paper looked like... not even her boss.
so all this has led to me spending the entire day today (6 hours so far) chasing people to find a way of pushing this through. and not getting a damn thing done otherwise.
partner my ass.
but then I got a nice email. and yes, I'm glad I missed out on the redundancies too. now go update your blog.
