Maybe My Brains On The Brink Of Insane

Not much blogging going on lately. The whole redundancy thing has/is having massive ripple effects. Which is to be expected. The voluntary thing didn't work out so well, so they have opened it up to the whole organisation. On top of which, all work and projects have been put on hold until the people are gone. Which could be 6 months....

But in the mean time (since I have even less to do now), I've been caught out by a few words that have stuck in my head.

Pathet-a-sad. This is a long time favourite of mine. Its when something is both Pathetic and Sad. It can be widely used in the place....

Anticipointment. A new word for me. Ironically said by my boss to me.... this is the Anticipation of being Disapointed. He used it to describe the feeling he gets before going to a meeting that he has no input in. I use it to describe how I feel when I come to work....

Administrivia. I only just saw this one today. I was reading an article about how an IT professional spends his time over a week. I really like this one. Mainly because almost half my time is spent doing Trivial Administrative work.

and lastly; inertia. This one really stuck in my throat a bit. So, as usual, I wanted to really understand the word, and what it means to me.

in·er·tia (-nûrsh)
n.
  1. Physics. The tendency of a body to resist acceleration; the tendency of a body at rest to remain at rest or of a body in straight line motion to stay in motion in a straight line unless acted on by an outside force.
  2. Resistance or disinclination to motion, action, or change: the inertia of an entrenched bureaucracy.
I think that everyone is affected by inertia at some point. And I don't mean in terms of the accelerator stuck open on the car (which is actually really scary). I mean in life. Inertia has a wonderful way of keeping us doing things that we may not really want to be doing. In my case, inertia is keeping me in a job that I really hate, and may well be made redundant from (my brother made some great comments on the word redundant, but I'll leave that for now). However, the way in which inertia was used the other day really hit me. Because lets be honest... interia is a bitch.

There is a cheesy movie out there that uses the term Chakabooka (sic). It means a strong spiritual kick in the ass. Something to get you out of your rut and make you do something to put your ass in gear.

I think its time we opened up a can of Chakabooka - and I don't mean just me.
